guild dispute

our guild has adopted roberts rules of orders. a non member, a husband of a member, shows up to the meetings and workshops and picnics and plays his harmonica. a member wrote an email anonomysly suggesting that playing the harmonica during a weaving guild meeting was inappropriate. two of the vocal majority, non officers, have demanded of the president to hold an executive meeting to issue a repudiation of the email. the president however feels the email was right on though no one has ever dealt with this man. she also feels that if she deals with this then all rude behavior, of which there is quite a bit in this group of women, would need to be adjudacated. in the past she has ignored demands like this, comparing it to the behavior of children. the by laws state she as president shall fill the role as required and that is all. how should she handle this situation.

A. You can't control what people write in emails -- just plain reality.

B. The member has the right to request the removal of a non-member during a meeting. Non-members have no rights.

a non member, a husband of a member, shows up to the meetings and workshops and picnics and plays his harmonica.

a member wrote an email anonomysly suggesting that playing the harmonica during a weaving guild meeting was inappropriate.

two of the vocal majority, non officers, have demanded of the president to hold an executive meeting to issue a repudiation of the email.

the president however feels the email was right on though no one has ever dealt with this man.

she also feels that if she deals with this then all rude behavior, of which there is quite a bit in this group of women, would need to be adjudacated.

in the past she has ignored demands like this, comparing it to the behavior of children. the by laws state she as president shall fill the role as required and that is all.

how should she handle this situation.

Q. Has any member made a motion addressing the issue?

If no one has bothered to make a motion to create a standing rule (a policy, a practice, etc.) regarding (say) "the playing of musical instruments during meetings", then there is nothing to "handle".

If you think that "writing an email" is sufficient, then you are WRONG.

Nothing official can be done via email, if Robert's Rules of Order applies.

Private correspondence changes nothing.
