QUESTION: Must we follow the latter (removal by majority vote) or are we still within proper procedure to rescind the election if we so choose ? The and/or rule is only if there is no provision in the bylaws for removing officers. As for your 2nd question it is up to you all to interpret the bylaws (see RONR pp. 570-573) but the definitions of the two words would seem to provide the answer in of themselves.
