Guest Jane Posted April 10, 2011 at 01:37 AM Report Share Posted April 10, 2011 at 01:37 AM OUR CURRENT PTU PRESIDENT(WHO HAS SERVED 2 YEARS, THE MAXIMUM ALLOWED BY THE BYLAWS)WENT TO THE PRINCIPAL(HONORARY PRESIDENT) AND PASTOR(MODERATOR), WHILE THE NOMINATING COMMITTEE WAS MAKING CALLS TO ITS MEMBERS TO SECURE NOMINATIONS. SHE TOLD THE PRINCIPAL & PASTOR THAT NO ONE WAS STEPPING UP TO RUN FOR PRESIDENT. THEY IN FACT HAD 3 NOMINATIONS AT THE TIME. SHE GOT THE PASTOR TO ASK HER TO BE PRESIDENT FOR A THIRD YEAR. THIS IS IN VIOLATION OF OUR BYLAWS. AT THE MEETING NEXT WEEK THE PRINCIPAL IS GOING TO TELL OUR MEMBERSHIP THAT OUR PASTOR HAS DECIDED IT. WHAT CAN WE AS MEMBERS DO? WE WANT THE RIGHT TO NOMINATE MEMBERS FROM THE FLOOR AND VOTE ON A NEW BOARD??? HELP??
hmtcastle Posted April 10, 2011 at 01:42 AM Report Share Posted April 10, 2011 at 01:42 AM WHAT CAN WE AS MEMBERS DO? WE WANT THE RIGHT TO NOMINATE MEMBERS FROM THE FLOOR AND VOTE ON A NEW BOARD??Firstly, please don't type in ALL CAPS. It's seen as "shouting" and it's hard to read. Secondly, if you think you might be posting follow-up questions, you might want to register as a member so you won't have to decipher the CAPTCHA code more than one more time.As to what you can do, you can ignore the actions of your president, principal, and pastor and hold the election as scheduled. Nominate whomever you want and vote for whomever you want. They have only three votes. Hopefully you and your fellow members will have more. The Pastor, Principal and President are not putting her up for a vote though, they are appointing her. Can we bring a motion from the floor to stop? Can we bring a motion from the floor to stop? You can raise a point of order to the effect that nothing in your bylaws (or other rules) gives the 3Ps the authority to do what they're trying to do (not to mention the fact that the person they're "appointing" is ineligible to serve a third term).Or you (along with some other respected members) could approach them before the meeting and let them know that you're not going to stand for their blatant violation of the rules. Or you could ask them to show you where it says they can do what they're doing.
Gary Novosielski Posted April 10, 2011 at 02:11 AM Report Share Posted April 10, 2011 at 02:11 AM Thank you for your suggestions and response. The Pastor, Principal and President are not putting her up for a vote though, they are appointing her. Can we bring a motion from the floor to stop?If the nominating committee is in on this fraud, then simply ignore their recommendations, and nominate your own candidates from the floor. The motion to Open Nominations takes only a majority vote, and is in order when election time arrives.Any time anyone attempts to break the rules, raise a point of order, and if the president won't rule appropriately, Appeal the decision (with a second). These are the people you allow to educate your children? Gary Novosielski Posted April 10, 2011 at 02:35 AM Report Share Posted April 10, 2011 at 02:35 AM Well, let's not confuse the administrators with the teachers.Believe me, I never do! But these folk have an important influence on the process. It would be nice if good teachers could succeed in spite of a bad administration, but that's not always the case.I'm a supporter of secular education, but I am fond of this paraphrase of the words of Francis of Asissi. He was talking about preaching, not teaching, but the concept is the same:Wherever you go, teach. Use words, if necessary.

HELP??Sounds like the pastor and moderator made an "appointment" based on a condition that didn't exist and that they don't have authority to do (unless we're missing key info). Follow your procedures. What's the worst that could happen? A schism?? Those never last...
