Guest We destroy from within Posted April 14, 2011 at 10:56 AM Report Share Posted April 14, 2011 at 10:56 AM Once a motion has been made, it requires a second to move the motion to the floor to discuss or debate, if needed. My question is this:As the recording secretary for the meeting, I enter the name of the maker of the motion in the minutes. Must the name of the seconder (?) of the motion be included in the minutes? Also, when someone call or moves for the previous question (to immediately end all debate), must I enter the name of that individual in the minutes as well as the name of the seconder of that mover of the previous question as well? jstackpo Posted April 14, 2011 at 11:02 AM Report Share Posted April 14, 2011 at 11:02 AM The answer is "No" to all your questions. Some associations, by tradition or adopted rule, do require a seconder's names in minutes, but it is not a requirement of RONR at all. Kim Goldsworthy Posted April 14, 2011 at 11:09 AM Report Share Posted April 14, 2011 at 11:09 AM Must the name of the seconder of the motion be included in the minutes? No.When someone calls or moves for the previous question, must I enter the name of that individual in the minutes as well as the name of the seconder of that mover of the previous question as well? No, for the mover of Previous Question. No, for the seconder.See the sample minutes in RONR. You won't find many names at all.*****If I had a nickel for every time I saw/heard a chair or a secretary ask, "Who seconded the motion? What is your name?" I'd be rubbing elbows with Robin Leach, living the life of the rich and famous.
