If there is no vice-chair present, the secretary (or any member if there's no secretary present) calls the meeting to order and conducts a brief election for a chair pro tem (a temporary presiding officer). Rev Ed Posted May 26, 2011 at 08:46 PM Report Share Posted May 26, 2011 at 08:46 PM In the absence of the Chairman, the Vice-Chairman (or First Vice-Chairman or Senior Vice-Chairman) would assume the Chair. Once all Vice-Chairman positions have been gone through, then the Secretary (or anyone other member) would call the meeting to order and elect a Chair pro tem. The Chairman can recommend a Chair pro tem, but the assembly does not have to accept the recommendation.
