Tim Wynn Posted July 17, 2011 at 07:59 PM Report Share Posted July 17, 2011 at 07:59 PM When does a motion become part of the by-laws. When an amendment to the bylaws is adopted, it goes into effect immediately, unless otherwise stipulated.Do they need to be voted in.The bylaws may only be amended in accordance with the process for amendment that is spelled out in the bylaws. If the bylaws do not contain such a provision, they may be amended by a two-thirds vote, provided that notice has been given, or by a vote of a majority of the entire membership (that means a majority of all members, not just those who are present at the meeting and vote). If they are not voted into by-laws can a new President of the Board veto or rescind them. Each motion adopted by an assembly does not go into the bylaws. Nothing goes into the bylaws, except through a motion to amend them. A president does not have the power to "veto" or rescind any act of the assembly. What is the time limit before a Motion needs to be put into by-laws.I'm not sure what you're asking, but I'm pretty sure it's based on a misunderstanding of the process of a deliberative assembly. David A Foulkes Posted July 17, 2011 at 08:14 PM Report Share Posted July 17, 2011 at 08:14 PM If they are not voted into by-laws can a new President of the Board veto or rescind them.Let's assume we're talking about a motion to amend the bylaws. If it is not "voted into [the] by-laws", that means the motion was defeated. It was not adopted, it was rejected. There is nothing to veto or rescind. Gary Novosielski Posted July 20, 2011 at 12:10 AM Report Share Posted July 20, 2011 at 12:10 AM Amendments to the bylaws take effect immediately upon adoption, unless the motion has some proviso that says otherwise.
