Election of Officers

Our club had an election for Officers. One of the candidates was from the board of directors. This director was told at the time of the election that they were stepping down from their board position to run for officer. No provision was made to have that director's name on the ballot for directors as an incumbent in the event they were not elected to the officer position. There is no provision in the club's bylaws indicating that director would be stepping down. Is this a normal point of order and if so, isnt it also a point of order to have that officer either remain in their office if not due for election or at least be included in the nominating committee's list of candidates?

Whoever told the director that he was (automatically) "stepping down", or was required to step down, to run for an office was simply wrong. There is nothing in RONR that prohibits holding one position, and staying in that position, while running for another, nor running for two positions at once. RONR doesn't prohibit holding two positions at once, either.

However, done is done. The election results, along with the "stepping down", hold as it is now too late (RONR, p. 243-244) to raise any points of order about the matter.
