Guest BMS Posted August 26, 2011 at 10:21 PM Report Share Posted August 26, 2011 at 10:21 PM Our club recently revised its by-laws to include emeritae membership for qualifying individuals. The by-laws excuse emeritae members from all duties of membership and allows them to attend meetings whenever they so choose. The by-laws do not address the bringing motions to the floor, seconding motions, or the right to vote. Does Roberts Rules address whether Emeritae memebers retain the priviledges of membership while releaving the responsibilities of membership. Thank you,BMS
J. J. Posted August 26, 2011 at 10:54 PM Report Share Posted August 26, 2011 at 10:54 PM RONR does address life members, briefly (p. 447, fn.). It says that these types of things should be placed in the bylaws.
David A Foulkes Posted August 26, 2011 at 10:58 PM Report Share Posted August 26, 2011 at 10:58 PM And in case you don't have the book handy, it says such members' rights include attending meetings and speaking (in debate), but not making motions or voting unless the person is also a regular member or unless the bylaws stipulate such rights are included.
