Guest popcorn Posted August 28, 2011 at 07:23 AM Report Share Posted August 28, 2011 at 07:23 AM Hello,Members of my district caucus, comprised of 9 members and part of a larger county central committee, would like to have our our own meeting. However the chair of our caucus will not call a meeting, but 5 of us (majority) within our district caucus would like to hole a meeting. Since we're a majority can we hold a meeting, with proper advanced notification of all members, and conduct our own business? We need to fill 1 vacancy. Our bylaws are silent on caucus meetings, as our the state election codes.Do we just need a majority of members to conduct business, if our chairman doesn't show to the meeting called? jstackpo Posted August 28, 2011 at 11:32 AM Report Share Posted August 28, 2011 at 11:32 AM Correct on both counts, per RONR.Indeed, all you need is two of you to call the meeting (P. 482), and a majority can do business, chairman present or not.Be sure to include the chairman in your meeting call notification -- he's a member, too. David A Foulkes Posted August 28, 2011 at 11:43 AM Report Share Posted August 28, 2011 at 11:43 AM Do we just need a majority of members to conduct business...Correct .... per RONR.Not to be difficult, and not sure where the differences between district caucus and deliberative assembly lie, but I might qualify this to say you need a quorum, which may be more or less than a majority. jstackpo Posted August 28, 2011 at 12:59 PM Report Share Posted August 28, 2011 at 12:59 PM We all thrive on "difficulty" here!At least for a convention, a "caucus" appears to be just an alternate name for a "committee" -- p. 586-7.And the default (RONR) quorum is a majority of members.
