There is no other automatic line of succession beyond president and vice-president(s).(You'd also need to elect a secretary pro tem if the secretary is absent.) Rev Ed Posted October 21, 2011 at 07:58 PM Report Share Posted October 21, 2011 at 07:58 PM The Secretary - or another member if the Secretary is not present - would call the meeting to order and would preside over the election of a Chairman pro tem (temporary Chairman) until the VP or President arrives. Trina Posted October 21, 2011 at 08:46 PM Report Share Posted October 21, 2011 at 08:46 PM Also, although the secretary is named as the person to call the meeting to order and conduct the election (in the absence of President and VP), this in no way implies that the secretary should be the 'next in line' to preside. In fact, that's a bad idea, since it is extremely difficult for one person to competently chair the meeting, and perform the duties of secretary at the same time.
