jstackpo Posted November 12, 2011 at 01:28 PM Report Share Posted November 12, 2011 at 01:28 PM Unless it is an election, you don't need to. A tie vote defeats the motion being voted on.If it is an election, keep voting until somthing changes. Or nominate someone else - a compromise candidate. Tim Wynn Posted November 12, 2011 at 01:59 PM Report Share Posted November 12, 2011 at 01:59 PM We have an even number of voting members, how do we break a tie vote?A motion that requires a majority vote for adoption means that more than half of the votes cast must be in the affirmative to adopt the motion. With a tie, a majority in the affirmative was not reached, so the motion is lost. There is no parliamentary reason to break the tie.
