Trina Posted December 14, 2011 at 11:36 PM Report Share Posted December 14, 2011 at 11:36 PM Well, what the assembly votes on in the end is the motion, as amended. Along the way, the members may vote quite a few times on amendments, amendments to amendments, motions on procedural issues (such as the method to be used in voting), perhaps a motion to end debate and vote already (move the previous question)... None of those votes disposes of the motion itself; they are just steps along the way. At the end of debate, you should vote on the motion, in the form it is in at that time (which may be quite different than its original form). Gary Novosielski Posted December 15, 2011 at 12:01 AM Report Share Posted December 15, 2011 at 12:01 AM If a motion is amended and seconded, does the original motion have to be voted on?If an amendment is offered to a motion, and seconded, the amendment is voted on, perhaps followed by other amendments, each of which may or may not be agreed to.Then, when the motion is in its final shape, it is voted on to see if it is approved or rejected. Not the original motion, but the motion-as-amended.
