Guest Dan Posted December 15, 2011 at 09:20 PM Report Share Posted December 15, 2011 at 09:20 PM Does RONR have anything to see about "temporary vacancies" for a board or committee? Are there specified procedures for appointing a temporary member to a committee to replace a committee member while the committee member takes a leave, for example, maternity leave? Thanks

Are there specified procedures for appointing a temporary member to a committee to replace a committee member while the committee member takes a leave, for example, maternity leave? No to both questions. RONR does not define the terms "temporary vacancies," "temporary members," "leave" or procedures for such.In the case of a committee with a fixed number of members, I suppose that the appointing authority could use the motion to Amend Something Previously Adopted to replace the committee member, and then use ASPA again when the old member returns. If the committee does not have a fixed number of members, a new member could simply be added, and could later be removed if the appointing authority wished.Replacing board members is usually a bit trickier than replacing members of committees, so I think in that case the board would just be down a member until the person returned, unless the society had custom rules in its Bylaws on this subject.
