David A Foulkes Posted February 11, 2012 at 10:33 PM Report Share Posted February 11, 2012 at 10:33 PM Is a motion considered to be ppending until a vote is taken?Generally speaking, yes. Once stated by the chair, a motion is pending. Although, there are ways to dispose of a motion without taking a vote on it. Do you have any specifics you can share? The chair should make it clear. Generally, when a motion is pending, it will remain pending until a vote of some kind is taken... but what did you have in mind? jstackpo Posted February 12, 2012 at 03:32 PM Report Share Posted February 12, 2012 at 03:32 PM There is a distinction between "pending" and "immediately pending".Immediately pending describes the motion (could be an amendment, proposal to postpone, &c.) that you are currently actively considering and will vote on next.Pending is any motions "below" the I-P one, like the main motion itself. You will vote on the main motion eventually (maybe not until next meeting if "postpone" is adopted).
