Guest Karen Posted March 2, 2012 at 04:55 PM Report Share Posted March 2, 2012 at 04:55 PM Our board wishes to appoint a standing committee. They wish the standing committee to consist of several board members as well as nonmembers. Our bylaws are silent on appointment of committees. Can the board, by motion, appoint a standing committee by majority vote?

Trina Posted March 3, 2012 at 02:02 AM Report Share Posted March 3, 2012 at 02:02 AM Our board wishes to appoint a standing committee. Can the board, by motion, appoint a standing committee by majority vote?Is the board trying to create a new standing committee? Are other standing committees currently enumerated in the bylaws? What kind of authority is the committee expected to have?I would not be quick to say 'yes' to your question without more information... primarily because the body in question is the board, not the general membership.
