Guest fancy chick Posted March 9, 2012 at 08:24 PM Report Share Posted March 9, 2012 at 08:24 PM Here is my scenerio, a Georgia County Committee Convention has been called for tomorrow/Saturday. Our by-laws state that a revision of the rules, submitted number of days in advance, to the Rules Chairman, (completed) with all the data that was required (completed), and we think that the Rules Committee Chiarman will only sumerize the request. We want a vote, at this County Committee Convention, can someone explain and then refer me to RRO?
jstackpo Posted March 9, 2012 at 08:31 PM Report Share Posted March 9, 2012 at 08:31 PM What you need to do is be ready to raise points of order (p. 247 ff.) if the Rules chairman fails to do his/her job properly in reporting out your rules proposal.A "summary" may be OK as long as the assembly gets to debate, amend if desired, and vote on the specific rules changes you are proposing. And "properly" is what your existing rules call for, whatever they say. Your rules supersede RONR's rules.
Guest Guest Posted March 9, 2012 at 08:44 PM Report Share Posted March 9, 2012 at 08:44 PM ok, and thank you. What I am concerned about, expecially now that we are not receiving an agenda, what if our rules change is NOT on the agenda?
jstackpo Posted March 9, 2012 at 09:14 PM Report Share Posted March 9, 2012 at 09:14 PM RONR has no requirements for an agenda in the first place. If your association has special "agenda rules" you will be stuck with following them - unless you can amend them on the spot, of course. If a proposed agenda shows up (tomorrow?) without your proposal included, move to amend it to include your rules change. See p. 373 on "Changing an Agenda"
