Guest David Posted March 27, 2012 at 10:45 PM Report Share Posted March 27, 2012 at 10:45 PM Is there a way to temporarily change by-laws, i.e. membership, until a formal process is accomplished? Can specific portions be changed by "setting aside the rules" until the formal process is accomplished? Could this be done by consent of the body if all other rules are followed? Chris Harrison Posted March 27, 2012 at 11:01 PM Report Share Posted March 27, 2012 at 11:01 PM Though there are some bylaw provisions that can be suspended a good rule of thumb is to assume that nothing in the bylaws can be suspended until told otherwise. Can you tell us what rule in the bylaws you want to suspend?
Guest David Posted March 28, 2012 at 02:33 AM Report Share Posted March 28, 2012 at 02:33 AM @ Chris H., Thanks for the input. I was speaking specifically about memebership rules. Can these be suspended for a period of time, perhaps six months?

Of course you can always amend them again to restore the former rules but there's no "suspension" short cut.In general, as Chris H. suggested, you'll rarely go wrong if you assume that the rules in your bylaws can't be suspended.
