Can President Appoint Self to Committee

Docs are silent apart from stating that the President is responsible for appointing the committee. Can he / she then appoint themselves to a committee as the chair...

As they are silent, I know they can be considered part of the committee ex-officio...But the question is whether they can appoint themselves to the committee where the docs are silent...

The answer to both your paragraph/question is "Only if the Bylaws say so."

The "ex-officio" business has to be in the bylaws as well as the authority to appoint (which, evidently, they do). Given that the pres. has the authority to appoint, he can appoint himself if he wishes.

A motion establishing a committee can include naming people to the committee, unless the president's appointment authority rules that out which they probably do. - see the rather long chapter starting on p. 481 for details.

Thanks JD...The docs are very poorly written and only provide that the President appoints the committees. He has done so, and in so doing has subsequently made himself the chair...Another member has since challenged this (there is history)...It has been clearly stated that they can serve as chair but the question of self appointment as the chair is on the table...
