Ability to expunge from previous minutes without reconsideration

Our association maintains its minutes accordingly to RONR (11th), and this includes records of all of the motions that were made (even if only temporarily disposed of)

As it turns out, a motion that was raised in one session and carried over as Old Business looks like it will fail to be adopted in our upcoming session. Some in the body would like this motion to be expunged from the previous sessions minutes (which have already been approved.) The minutes simply note that motion and then it being postponed by the body. The body is aware that expungement results in a strike-out notion in the associations permanent minutes, but as the expunged text would not appear our published online minutes, it is considered to be worth pursuing.

The question asked of me is: If the motion (which is on the agenda as old business for our next meeting) fails to carry, can the association then move to "expunge" the making of the motion from the record of the previous meeting? Alternatively, since "expunge from record" is not mentioned as a standalone RONR motion, do they have approve the pending motion and then move to Reconsider and Expunge from the record to accomplish this?

Thank you,

This is a quite interesting question, with the publishing aspect indicating that it is has a practical effect.

The motion to Rescind, however, can normally be applied only to an adopted main motion or motions (p. 305, ll. 28-31). Under the regular rules, it is out of order to Rescind something not a main motion.

That said, it might be possible to suspend the previously cited rule and Rescind and Expunge. It would require both a 2/3 vote and a vote of the majority of the entire membership; both conditions would have to be met.
