Guest linda Posted June 24, 2012 at 01:18 PM Report Share Posted June 24, 2012 at 01:18 PM Is there a difference between an "at large" position vs an "open" position? Is an elected government official still considered to be in the "at large" category, or are they now considered "open?"
jstackpo Posted June 24, 2012 at 01:36 PM Report Share Posted June 24, 2012 at 01:36 PM Although "at large" shows up in three places in RONR, none of them are in the context of an "at large position"."Open" is there a bazillion times, but "open position" not at all.So I guess you are on your own. Ask a lawyer familiar with the government position what the terms mean in that context.
Guest Edgar Posted June 24, 2012 at 02:28 PM Report Share Posted June 24, 2012 at 02:28 PM Is there a difference between an "at large" position vs an "open" position? Is an elected government official still considered to be in the "at large" category, or are they now considered "open?"The answers will depend on the specific context in which these terms are used but, in my mind, an open position is a vacant position. It has nothing to do with at-large positions which usually refer to offices not associated with a particular constituency. In any event, as Mr. Stackpole indicated, you won't find your answers in RONR.
