Chris Harrison Posted July 3, 2012 at 02:18 PM Report Share Posted July 3, 2012 at 02:18 PM No. A motion is a proposal that the assembly take some action and typically takes a majority vote. A consensus is typically when everyone agrees on a course of action (or at least no one objects to that course).
Trina Posted July 3, 2012 at 03:11 PM Report Share Posted July 3, 2012 at 03:11 PM Is consensus the same as a motion?Motions are sometimes adopted by 'unanimous consent' -- in practice, especially if the assembly operates rather informally, the fact that something (a motion, in effect) has been adopted may not seem obvious, since the words 'motion' and 'vote' may never come up. Nonetheless, binding decisions can certainly be made by an assembly in this manner (unanimous consent). This approach is most likely with uncontroversial decisions.Care to give an example of something that prompted your question?
