Guest Joanne Posted July 8, 2012 at 02:13 PM Report Share Posted July 8, 2012 at 02:13 PM I should have stated that we are a Yacht Club in NYS and a not for profit, does this make any difference?

This is not a question about parliamentary law.Sorry about that.
Chris Harrison Posted July 8, 2012 at 02:52 PM Report Share Posted July 8, 2012 at 02:52 PM Can a Board of Governors be sued ?Anyone can be sued (shoot, people have sued God). Whether the person/body/entity has some form of immunity is a legal question and as Dan said is beyond this forum's scope.
Trina Posted July 8, 2012 at 03:17 PM Report Share Posted July 8, 2012 at 03:17 PM Can a Board of Governors be sued ?I should have stated that we are a Yacht Club in NYS and a not for profit, does this make any difference?Do some Google searches on combinations of relevant terms -- i.e. 'nonprofit' 'board' 'duties' 'liability' 'lawsuits' -- stuff like that, and see what comes up. Mr. Honemann's answer in post #2 seems a good first approximation. Beyond that, your question is a legal one, and, as has been repeatedly said, not the sort of question that is answered by reference to any rule in RONR.
