Tim Wynn Posted July 11, 2012 at 04:10 PM Report Share Posted July 11, 2012 at 04:10 PM is there a magic percentage--75%, 50% plus 1, or what?Quorum requirements are commonly established in the bylaws. If there is no provision for the quorum of a particular body, the quorum is a majority of the members of the body. Majority means more than half. sMargaret Posted July 11, 2012 at 04:53 PM Report Share Posted July 11, 2012 at 04:53 PM Also, 50% plus one is not the correct definition - it only works in the case of an even number of people voting.

If the bylaws actually say '50% + 1', however, that is the definition the society has to abide by.Quorum has nothing to do with the number of people voting... I assume that didn't come out quite the way you intended.
David A Foulkes Posted July 11, 2012 at 11:48 PM Report Share Posted July 11, 2012 at 11:48 PM is there a magic percentage--75%, 50% plus 1, or what?"There is no single number or percentage of members that will be equally suitable as a quorum in all societies. The quorum should be as large a number of members as can reasonably be depended on to be present at any meeting, except in very bad weather or other exceptionally unfavorable conditions."
