Rev Ed Posted July 20, 2012 at 09:41 PM Report Share Posted July 20, 2012 at 09:41 PM Unless the By-laws of the organization state a limit, a single person can hold as many positions as the membership is willing to elect the person to.
Guest Natalie Posted July 23, 2012 at 11:26 PM Report Share Posted July 23, 2012 at 11:26 PM Our PTA had nominations done, but due to unforeseen events was unable to to hold a vote with our general PTA meeting. Question is, since the end of the PTA year is June 30th, and with new officers in place and on the Executive Board with no active participation from the former officers, can we proceed as necessary to make plans for the upcoming school year and have the vote at the first general meeting as there are certain things that must be in place prior to the beginning of the new school year? Trina Posted July 24, 2012 at 11:39 AM Report Share Posted July 24, 2012 at 11:39 AM Our PTA had nominations done, but due to unforeseen events was unable to to hold a vote with our general PTA meeting. So, depending on how the term of office is defined in your bylaws (does it include the phrase 'until successors are elected'?), you either have no officers at the moment, or you still have the old officers (who are no longer doing anything) lingering in office. If the election wasn't held, it is a delusion to say that the new officers are 'in place' -- they aren't.The people nominated can't officially act as officers, and the Executive Board can't conduct business as a body if its members haven't yet been elected. That's not to say that individuals can't make plans and take certain actions during the summer, but those individuals will be acting on their own initiative and at their own risk. I'd be very cautious about spending any of the organization's money, for example."can we proceed as necessary...?" There is nothing in RONR that would allow people who are, plain and simple, not members of the body (the Executive Board in the situation you described) to make decisions or conduct business in the name of the body. It simply makes no sense.edited to add: Why were you unable to hold a vote? And, as was pointed out in the other thread where you appended this same question about your PTA, this forum works better if you start a new topic to ask a new question. Starting the same new topic in more than one old thread, as you have done, is a particularly confusing approach.
