Motion Approval process

When is a motion formally approved? At the meeting it was discussed and voted on, or when those meeting minutes are approved?

The question is regarding a contract that needed to be approved within a certain time frame and the deadline fell between the meeting and the approval of the minutes.

It takes effect when, upon announcing the result of the vote, the chair declares it adopted ("adopted" is the usual term, though the US constitution says "pass" on at least one occasion, and I'm one American not gonna say they're wrong, no sirree). In the example of the treatment of a main motion, on p. 120 - 121 in RONR, 11th Ed, with the issue being a contribution by the society to some function, the chair declares the motion adopted, then turns to the treasurer and directs her to write a check, and turns to the secretary and directs him to write the cover letter.
