Guest Dan Mayer Posted August 2, 2012 at 10:11 PM Report Share Posted August 2, 2012 at 10:11 PM In January 2012 our church voters voted to enact a particular plan of action if a future circumstance developed. Specifically, if the school has less than 20 students, then the faculty staff will be reduced to one teacher and the grade spread will be re-examined. Now I hear that advocates from the losing side of that motion plan to introduce a new motion which would override the previously approved motion. Is there a requirement for two-thirds vote (or some %) as this is a repeat of a previous vote? Would appreciate some guidance. Thank you!
Chris Harrison Posted August 2, 2012 at 10:15 PM Report Share Posted August 2, 2012 at 10:15 PM See RONR pp. 305-310 for discussion on Rescind/Amend Something Previously Adopted. It requires a majority vote if previous notice was given, a 2/3 vote if notice wasn't given, and also a majority of the entire membership will suffice.
