President misleading the rest of the board

The board has considered, accepted and worked a new rate of pay for an individual in the up coming years budget with all members in attendance. A few months later the president decides with no discussion, no input from the other board members just dictates that the individual be denied the raise in pay. The board members did not dispute any of this as it was presented in such a way to make the rest of the board believe that this is what has to be done because a higher up governing body deemed it so. We have recently found out it is not so. How do we proceed?

Amend Something Previously Adopted.

Unless your bylaws or other governing rules authorize the president to make any such unilateral decisions, then he can't. So, ignore what he says and follow the previous (and we'll assume properly adopted) decision(s) of the Board.

Perhaps something along the lines of "man, I don't get paid enough to deal with this stuff....", or maybe "hey, is that a crocodile eating my new orchids? gotta get some sleep."
