Guest Jim Edwards Posted October 1, 2012 at 03:52 PM Report Share Posted October 1, 2012 at 03:52 PM When a motion is placed on the floor and properly seconded, the chair asks for the "question" is it proper for the voting members say "question" and remain seated or only those who have a "question" stand and say "question". JohnR Posted October 1, 2012 at 04:08 PM Report Share Posted October 1, 2012 at 04:08 PM No. The chair should state the motion in full and, if it is debatable, wait for members who wish to be recognized to rise. Normally the maker of the motion is recognized first. When debate has ceased, the chair asks "Are you ready for the question?" Members who are ready to vote should remain seated and silent.
