Guest Joseph Maldonado Posted October 30, 2012 at 12:21 AM Report Share Posted October 30, 2012 at 12:21 AM Does Robert's rule of law follow the ex post facto law? My president is trying to enforce Robert's law for disciplinary actions and was wondering if ex post facto is taken into account.

Guest Joseph Posted October 30, 2012 at 12:35 AM Report Share Posted October 30, 2012 at 12:35 AM My president is trying to remove another officer from the group because of certain issues. However, she is trying to add Robert's rule to the constitution before removal. I was wondering if she is allowed to remove an officer after Robert's rule has been enstated. Chris Harrison Posted October 30, 2012 at 12:37 AM Report Share Posted October 30, 2012 at 12:37 AM Nothing in RONR would prevent a member from being punished for doing something in the past even if there was no rule against the offense when it was committed. Guest Edgar Posted October 30, 2012 at 12:45 AM Report Share Posted October 30, 2012 at 12:45 AM I was wondering if she is allowed to remove an officer after Robert's rule has been instated.Note that "Robert's rule" is not a single rule. Robert's Rules of Order is a 700-page book of rules, none of which give your president the authority to remove anyone. But neither do they prevent an officer from being removed from office as long as due process is followed. You might be thinking that someone can't be charged with a crime if what they're accused of doing wasn't a crime when they did it, but that's not what Robert's Rules of Order is concerned with.
