Guest Jim Posted November 9, 2012 at 02:34 PM Report Share Posted November 9, 2012 at 02:34 PM when a Board member of a non profit group resigns does that end the term of that individual?? The reason for that question is some on the board think a whole new term was started with the new member and some think it only fulfills the term of the resigned officer. what is correct and references for that?? Guest Edgar Posted November 9, 2012 at 03:00 PM Report Share Posted November 9, 2012 at 03:00 PM Terms don't necessarily end when an office-holder leaves office so the replacement typically serves until the end of the ("original") term. If you kept re-setting the clock to zero the election calendar would be all screwed up.
jstackpo Posted November 9, 2012 at 03:11 PM Report Share Posted November 9, 2012 at 03:11 PM And the "terms" in office are (usually) defined in bylaws as from election (plus possible later installation) to the bylaw-scheduled next election (+installation). Leaving office mid-term doesn't change what the bylaws say.
