How can we get a vote postponed in order to obtain council because the measure affects our agreement and we need legal help. The board will not willingly postpone because the vote benefits the other organizations 4 of 6 board members are associated with outside of our organization.

The motion to Postpone to a Certain Time requires a majority vote for adoption.

Then you're out of luck.

Check your association's bylaws before you quit. They may (or may not, but only you can tell) say that the Board is bound to do what the general membership tells it to do, when those members are gathered in a general membership meeting.

If so, adopt an appropriate set of instrucstions to the board at you next membership (not board) meeting.

Unfortunately, based on other posts by Carri, it seems that the general membership doesn't have meetings.

BUT WAIT!! There's more...

If Miss Carri is sharp, she'll set to work amending the bylaws which could call for general membership meetings. If she has an egotistical dictator on the board, she could play it to him, thereby gaining his support for general membership meetings amendments.

Besides, if the general membership pays dues (and elects the board?) it is reasonable. In some states, it's a legal requirement--something Carri may want to check into.

Don't give up yet, Carri!
