Guest Jim Posted July 25, 2013 at 08:52 PM Report Share Posted July 25, 2013 at 08:52 PM Our President resigned in office. Our Vice-President moved up to act until a election by By-Laws are conducted. Does our acting president have the authority to appoint an acting vice, till such time as elections are held? jstackpo Posted July 25, 2013 at 09:42 PM Report Share Posted July 25, 2013 at 09:42 PM Unless your bylaws clearly say "acting" (which is NOT defined in RONR, so I can't really be sure what it might mean - I trust you do) the erstwhile VP IS the president now. And he remains so until whatever requirements set out in your bylaws are taken care of. But... whether the president ("acting" or "for real") has the authority -- it would have to be in the bylaws -- to appoint a new Vice-President depends on how your bylaws say vacancies are to be filled. Read them carefully.
