Josh Martin Posted October 22, 2013 at 06:10 PM Report Share Posted October 22, 2013 at 06:10 PM when can a motion for reconsideration be made During the same meeting, or during the meeting on the next business day in a multiple day session. if the motion is defeated, can at a later time another motion for reconsideration be made on the same motion No. A defeated motion to Reconsider cannot be renewed in connection with the same vote. I would note that although the motion to Reconsider has very narrow time limits, there are other options. If the main motion was adopted, the motion to Rescind or Amend Something Previously Adopted may be made at a later session. If defeated, that motion may be renewed at an even later session (but not during the same session). If the main motion was defeated, the main motion itself may be renewed at a later session. If defeated, it may be renewed again at an even later session (but not during the same session).
Bruce Lages Posted October 23, 2013 at 01:36 AM Report Share Posted October 23, 2013 at 01:36 AM Josh - what prevents Rescind or Amend Something Previously Adopted from being used in the same session as the motion to which it is applied?

Nothing, but it's usually in order and a lot easier to use the motion to Reconsider in that case.
Guest Rose Posted October 25, 2013 at 04:14 PM Report Share Posted October 25, 2013 at 04:14 PM When should you make the motion to reconsider or amend a previous vote? During the old business or when you discuss new business?
Josh Martin Posted October 25, 2013 at 04:56 PM Report Share Posted October 25, 2013 at 04:56 PM When should you make the motion to reconsider or amend a previous vote? During the old business or when you discuss new business? New Business would generally be the appropriate time to make a motion to Rescind or Amend Something Previously Adopted. Either one would be fine for Reconsider.
Bruce Lages Posted October 25, 2013 at 06:43 PM Report Share Posted October 25, 2013 at 06:43 PM When should you make the motion to reconsider or amend a previous vote? Guest_Rose - please understand that with either the motion to reconsider or to amend something previously adopted, you will be dealing again with the motion in question, not just the vote on it.
