Guest Mary Lou Newbold Posted April 15, 2014 at 12:42 AM Report Share Posted April 15, 2014 at 12:42 AM Hello! We need to postpone our AGM by one week. Can we just send a notice of date change? Does this affect the posting of the AGM Notice so many days in advance of AGM. Thank you for any thoughts and comments.
Guest Edgar Posted April 15, 2014 at 01:01 AM Report Share Posted April 15, 2014 at 01:01 AM We need to postpone our AGM by one week. Do you really need to or do you just want to? And why? In any event, if the date of the AGM is fixed in your bylaws then that's the date. But you could hold a brief meeting on that date and "adjourn" (i.e. continue) the meeting at a later, more convenient date.
Guest Guest Posted April 15, 2014 at 03:30 AM Report Share Posted April 15, 2014 at 03:30 AM The AGM is not fixed in our by laws, and yes we "need" to postpone.

Does this affect the posting of the AGM Notice so many days in advance of AGM. ... The AGM is not fixed in our by laws, and yes we "need" to postpone. It may or may not be possible to postpone the meeting in advance. It depends on how the date was set in the first place, whether notice of the meeting has already been sent, and whether the deadline for sending notice has passed. If it is not possible, then the assembly will need to meet at the scheduled time and can then adjourn the meeting to a later date. You don't even need a quorum for this, so you can have just a handful of members show up to do this.
Guest Edgar Posted April 15, 2014 at 04:38 PM Report Share Posted April 15, 2014 at 04:38 PM You don't even need a quorum for this, so you can have just a handful of members show up to do this. In fact, you might specifically not want a quorum present for, if there is one, the assembly could go ahead and conduct business. So if only a couple of members from the "postpone" camp show up, and a couple dozen members from the "do it now" camp show up, the game is afoot.
