kendo Posted June 14, 2014 at 12:54 AM Report Share Posted June 14, 2014 at 12:54 AM During our annual meeting ( where new officers and directors) are elected for the next term, our order of the meeting says that the election is to be last thing on the agenda, Can they change the election to the first, with people voting before the meeting is come to order? If no,do we have to reconize the new elected people? thanks for anything you can advise.
Guest Nancy N. Posted June 14, 2014 at 01:42 AM Report Share Posted June 14, 2014 at 01:42 AM WELL. Until the meeting comes to order, it's not a meeting, so no business is in order at all. Such as voting. An assembly can mess around with its order of business, with or without an agenda, all it wants. (Some of that may involve suspending the rules, which would require a 2/3 vote.) -- This means while the meeting is in progress, of course, which means after the meeting is called to order. I'm concerned with Kendo's saying "they" -- as in " Can they change the election to the first ...?" Who is the "they"? The assembled members control their membership meetings. (Do you mean you have a board of directors, and the board is giving the membership orders? Pfui!)

Gary Novosielski Posted June 14, 2014 at 06:46 PM Report Share Posted June 14, 2014 at 06:46 PM Umm, I wouldn't go that far without knowing a lot more details. But if the election was not a valid one, it's entirely possible.
