Guest Dee Posted March 17, 2015 at 08:20 PM Report Share Posted March 17, 2015 at 08:20 PM The Chairman and Vice Chairman of our County Planning Commission have called in to be excused from our next public hearing. Does the Secretary have to conduct the public hearing or can a motion be made to appoint another member to chair the meeting?
Richard Brown Posted March 17, 2015 at 08:22 PM Report Share Posted March 17, 2015 at 08:22 PM Unless your rules provide otherwise, the Secretary should call the meeting to order and the first order of business should be to elect a chairman pro-tem to preside at that meeting. That selection is often done by unanimous consent. The Secretary usually "presides" until the chairman is selected. RONR pages 453 and 459.
