Tom Coronite Posted January 17, 2017 at 10:19 PM Report Share Posted January 17, 2017 at 10:19 PM RONR p. 482 line 18ff states that directors should be elected the same way and at the same time as other officers. Would that include the provision of page 447 line 18ff which states it is possible to elect officers from outside the membership? I can find where RONR provides for nonmembers being ex officio members of the board. Can they, then, also serve as elected members of the board? Gary Novosielski Posted January 17, 2017 at 11:50 PM Report Share Posted January 17, 2017 at 11:50 PM There is no restriction in RONR that board members must be members of the society in general. Any such restrictions would have to be in the bylaws. As a practical matter, in organizations that do not customarily have non-member directors, such a rule is seldom necessary because a non-member would be unlikely to gain election.
