Guest Ed M. Posted February 13, 2017 at 04:27 PM Report Share Posted February 13, 2017 at 04:27 PM What are the general rules for closed sessions? Are closed session agenda items put on the regular business agenda under the heading "Closed Session" or not? (Thus persons who will not be attending the closed session can seed them.) Are minutes (only actions taken) in closed session approved in another closed session at the next regular business meeting?
Gary Novosielski Posted February 13, 2017 at 04:42 PM Report Share Posted February 13, 2017 at 04:42 PM There are no rules regarding when a group can go into executive session, unless you are a public body subject to Sunshine Laws. It would probably be unwise to list the items that will be discussed in the agenda, unless, again, Sunshine Laws apply, and require it. Minutes are kept of executive session, and should be read and approved in executive session, if there's any possibility they contain confidential information. It seems that you are concerned with printed matter. -- What text appears on a sheet of paper. There is no rule in Robert's Rules that the phrase "closed session" or "executive session" be expressly stated on any call-to-meeting, any agenda, any mailing. Executive session (closed session) may be invoked dynamically, without notice, via an ordinary motion.
