Guest Vincent Posted October 31, 2018 at 06:57 AM Report Share Posted October 31, 2018 at 06:57 AM Is electronic meetings or texting permitted to allocate resources or organization's funds? Can a quorum be established via text messaging?
jstackpo Posted October 31, 2018 at 07:21 AM Report Share Posted October 31, 2018 at 07:21 AM Only if authorized in the bylaws. Here's a link to an essay that shows how to set up and run an electronic meeting (for any purpose), via e-mail: https://www.dropbox.com/s/g8w31eocwqx067h/E-Meetings 2012.docx?dl=
Transpower Posted October 31, 2018 at 03:07 PM Report Share Posted October 31, 2018 at 03:07 PM In an electronic meeting, all participants must be able to hear one another. It would be better, though not required, to also see each other. Simply exchanging emails or texts is not a good method. And, as my colleague jstackpo says above, the bylaws must authorize electronic meetings (in order to hold them) to be in accord with RONR. I agree, particularly with the "simply exchanging" part. But with addition structure, based on RONR as described in that cited article, e-mail meetings can work just fine, although not by any means as quickly as regular in-person -- or real-time video conference, &c. -- meetings. Sure a lot less expensive, however.
