Guest Ken Posted December 8, 2019 at 07:59 PM Report Share Posted December 8, 2019 at 07:59 PM From the chair of the nominating committee, a motion is made to cast a unanimous vote for election of an officer. Is it necessary for a second to this motion prior to the chair of the organization asking for a confirmation vote of all eligible voters? Atul Kapur Posted December 8, 2019 at 08:05 PM Report Share Posted December 8, 2019 at 08:05 PM Usually this type of motion is only proper as a show of solidarity by a losing candidate. Most times this comes up, the chair should declare the sole nominee elected by acclamation rather than following the procedure you describe. Alternatively, this is attempted when the bylaws require a ballot vote and that requirement cannot be subverted in this way. Which circumstance are you describing? Rob Elsman Posted December 8, 2019 at 08:44 PM Report Share Posted December 8, 2019 at 08:44 PM When presenting the report of the Nominating Committee, the reporting member presents a nomination, which is only a form of a suggestion. This motion to "cast a unanimous vote" is not in order, since it exceeds the authority of the reporting committee.
