SandraK Posted February 3, 2020 at 06:48 PM Report Share Posted February 3, 2020 at 06:48 PM An organization has requested that members submit in advance anything to be discussed in a business meeting in order for the appropriate committee to vet / review the topic/question. If the organization’s leaders plan to present revised bylaws for consideration, should those bylaws first be vetted or reviewed by the organization’s policy committee? There is no requirement in RONR that this be done 1. What do your bylaws say about the amendment process? Is there a requirement to do so in your bylaws? 2. What is the stated purpose and authority of the policy committee? 3. what has been the custom with regard to bylaw amendments?
Bruce Lages Posted February 3, 2020 at 09:33 PM Report Share Posted February 3, 2020 at 09:33 PM I would also note that nothing in RONR requires that any items brought up under new business be submitted in advance of the meeting. This would have to be a rule (and I assume a special rule of order) adopted by your organization - and if you are referring to a meeting of the membership, a rule adopted by the membership and not the board.
