Guest Big Red Posted June 17, 2021 at 02:47 PM Report Share Posted June 17, 2021 at 02:47 PM Are "conditional" motions allowed. I have looked but can't find any information. For example, is this acceptable: a motion to approve a change in city ordinance A conditional upon a change is city ordinance B. The change in B has not yet been vetted through the required procedures and the change in A has gone through all necessary public hearings. If A doesn't pass than there is no need to go through the procedures to change B.
Guest Big Red Posted June 17, 2021 at 02:52 PM Report Share Posted June 17, 2021 at 02:52 PM An additional piece to my post. In all likelihood the motion to change in A will only pass in the condition is added.
George Mervosh Posted June 17, 2021 at 03:26 PM Report Share Posted June 17, 2021 at 03:26 PM I think you're referring to a proviso. See RONR (12th ed.), t24-25 & t41.
