Guest Cam Posted June 23, 2021 at 01:04 AM Report Share Posted June 23, 2021 at 01:04 AM When a person is unable to attend a meeting due to recent surgery and desires to be nominated for an open position, what is the procedure that must be followed? Richard Brown Posted June 23, 2021 at 01:49 AM Report Share Posted June 23, 2021 at 01:49 AM Whoever wants to nominate that person should first obtain the person’s verbal consent and then make the nomination at the meeting just as if the person being nominated was present. When the nomination is made, the member making the nomination might state that “I have obtained the member’s consent to make the nomination“. Alicia Percell, PRP Posted June 24, 2021 at 08:37 AM Report Share Posted June 24, 2021 at 08:37 AM Nothing in Robert's Rules precludes someone being nominated and elected in absentia, though as noted above you should confirm their consent and willingness to accept the position, and you should express that at the time of the nomination. Unless your organization's rules have some sort of requirement that the person be present, there aren't other hurdles.
