Bylaws Violation

The executive board of our union has, without malice or forethought, violated one of our organizations bylaws.  According to those bylaws, the secretary was supposed to post that fact that nominations for executive board positions would be taking place at our next union.  This information was supposed to be posted 15 days prior to the meeting.  The meeting is now 2 days away.  How can we quell the uproar that is about to take place by those who see everything as a conspiracy?

If the bylaws require that "the fact that nominations for executive board positions would be taking place" must be "posted 15 days prior to the meeting," then this must be done. The fact that the violation occurred "without malice or forethought" is no defense. So it would seem to me the appropriate course of action would be to apologize profusely for the mistake and then postpone the nominations to the next regular meeting or to an adjourned meeting.
