Guest Larry Posted November 28, 2022 at 03:56 PM Report Share Posted November 28, 2022 at 03:56 PM Our organization has two methods of voting in the constitution and bylaws, They are show of hands or voice vote. We are going to holding our leadership election and some members of the club want a secret ballot. Can a motion be made to hold a secret ballot? Atul Kapur Posted November 28, 2022 at 04:11 PM Report Share Posted November 28, 2022 at 04:11 PM Generally, yes, but it depends on the exact wording of your bylaws regarding methods of voting (whether those two metiods are the only ones allowed). How has the club conducted its leadership election voting previously?

Unless prohibited in the bylaws, a motion to hold the vote by ballot would be in order. I question whether the voice vote would be useful, since most bylaws amendments require a two-thirds vote, which can't be reliably judged from a voice vote. Can you please do a copy and paste or quote verbatim exactly what your bylaws say about the methods of voting? Please quote verbatim, don’t paraphrase.
