Tim Bajkiewicz Posted January 30, 2024 at 03:39 AM Report Posted January 30, 2024 at 03:39 AM Does a vote coming from a committee recommendation require a motion and second? I once heard that since it comes from a committee, no such motion is needed. Thanks! Quote
Bruce Lages Posted January 30, 2024 at 04:33 AM Report Posted January 30, 2024 at 04:33 AM A recommendation coming from a committee requires a motion if the recommendation is to be acted upon, but it is only the second to the motion that is not needed if the committee was composed of more than one member. I presume it is the vote on the committee recommendation that you are referring to. Generally, a recommendation from a committee is a suggestion that the parent assembly take action of some kind, and that is presented as a motion, usually made by the reporting member of the committee. Tim Bajkiewicz Posted January 30, 2024 at 03:38 PM Author Report Posted January 30, 2024 at 03:38 PM Thanks for the reply, Bruce. It's often when the committee is presenting an updated document for adoption, like a plan. I work in a university academic department. Our committees are always more than one member. Thanks! Quote
