Guest TDM56 Posted February 23, 2024 at 10:45 PM Report Share Posted February 23, 2024 at 10:45 PM The secretary was unavailable, so is the president takes the minutes. Is this allowed or should they have appointment someone for that meeting? Thanks, Tom
Gary Novosielski Posted February 23, 2024 at 11:10 PM Report Share Posted February 23, 2024 at 11:10 PM If the secretary is absent, the assembly should elect a secretary pro tempore for that meeting. RONR says that two officers—a presiding officer, and a recording officer, are the minimum required. Whether those two can be fulfilled by one person is a matter of debate, but it's probably not a good idea if it can be avoided. Both jobs require attention to detail that would be a lot to ask of one person.

J. J. Posted February 24, 2024 at 08:23 PM Report Share Posted February 24, 2024 at 08:23 PM Two offices can be filled by one person, especially due to a single absence. The chair of a small committee often keeps a memorandum that is similar to minutes. It violates no rule.
