Guest Maggie Posted May 26, 2010 at 11:24 PM Report Share Posted May 26, 2010 at 11:24 PM Bylaws are silent to this matter. But, must the committee chairman be members (directors) of the board? Or, can any member of the community be chairman?Thank you.
Chris Harrison Posted May 26, 2010 at 11:38 PM Report Share Posted May 26, 2010 at 11:38 PM If the bylaws are silent committee members can be either members of the assembly or nonmembers (RONR p. 167).
Rev Ed Posted May 26, 2010 at 11:58 PM Report Share Posted May 26, 2010 at 11:58 PM While all Committees (with the exception of the Nominating Committee perhaps) should have one Board member on it, there is no reason why the Chairman must be a director or officer. The chairman's position may be left to a non-Board member as Committees are a good training ground for new potential directors, and having someone be a Committee member and then a Committee Chairman before running for the Board demonstrates that the member can handle the duties and requirements of being an effective director.
