Dreams Posted October 4, 2010 at 03:44 PM Report Share Posted October 4, 2010 at 03:44 PM Hello. Our elections are finalized on a Wednesday and the new board candidates are announced that night. Thursday the new board convenes to elect officers. It has been our tradition to have the outgoing President reign over the new board's election of officers. However in this case the outgoing President's term has expired and he will, officially, no longer be a board member. Therefore, does he still oversee the election for board officers or does the next ranking board member do so--in this case, the 1st Vice President who will still be a board member? Please direct me to the correct chapter in Roberts Rules, 10th Edition. Thank you for your time to read and hopefully, answer my question.
jstackpo Posted October 4, 2010 at 04:03 PM Report Share Posted October 4, 2010 at 04:03 PM Presuming your bylaws have the more or less standard phrasing to the effect that the vice-president presides in the absence of the president, he/she would indeed preside. Even in the absence of such phrasing, such would be the case: RONR, pp. 436,
