Motion Not Seconded

When a board member makes a motion and then it is not seconded, what is the proper way to list this in minutes?

In small boards (not more than about a dozen members present), seconds are not required. See RONR(10th ed.), p. 470, l. 17-27.

If your board is not subject to this rule, the motion could be entered into the minutes as: Ms. Adams moved "that an autographed copy of 'The Raven' be purchased for the library." The motion died for lack of a second.

But be aware that if, instead of just being quiet when a second would be expected, someone chimes in on the merits of the motion, the chair will probably (correctly) take that to be a second, since at least one other person appears to want to discuss the motion.
